Three Police Officers Arrested For Business Robbery In Mfuleni

A shocking incident of corruption within the South African police force has come to light, with three police constables from Nyanga SAPS being arrested for their alleged involvement in a business robbery at a Somalian-owned spaza shop in Mfuleni, Western Cape.

The robbery occurred on October 1, 2024, when the officers, dressed in uniform and driving a state vehicle, allegedly stole R5,600 in cash and cigarettes valued at R6,930.

The Robbery Incident

According to reports, the officers demanded to search the shop, and when the owner refused, they drew their firearms and forced the owner to open a safety room at gunpoint.

The owner, along with his two brothers, was confined to the backroom while the officers stole the goods.

What is remarkable about this case is the bravery of the shop owner, who managed to follow the police vehicle after the robbery and filmed the state vehicle as it drove away.

Investigation and Arrest

The shop owner’s quick thinking and evidence helped lead to the investigation and subsequent arrest of the officers.

The constables, aged 28, 28, and 29, were arrested on March 3, 2025, while reporting for duty at Nyanga SAPS. Lieutenant-Colonel Malcolm Pojie confirmed that the three officers have been charged with business robbery and pointing a firearm.

If convicted, they face severe penalties, including possible dismissal from the police force and imprisonment.

The incident has raised concerns about corruption and misconduct within the police force, emphasizing the need for accountability and transparency.
