Three Minors Arrested For Raping Teen And Recording The Ordeal

Three minors aged 12, 14, and 17 from Mitchell’s Plain have been arrested in connection to the alleged rape of a 14-year-old girl.  The arrests were made by detectives from the Mitchell’s Plain Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit on Wednesday, October 23.

Details of the Incident

According to police spokesperson Malcolm Pojie, the accused minors were involved in the heinous act of not only raping the victim but also recording the event, which is considered manufacturing child pornography.

The incident is reported to have occurred earlier in October when the girl was approached in a park, threatened with a firearm, and subsequently taken to a secluded area where the assault ensued. It was only after her grandmother was confronted with the video that the girl revealed the traumatic experience.

Legal Proceedings and Community Response

The three suspects made their initial court appearances last Thursday, although details were limited due to their ages. Additionally, a 10-year-old and an 11-year-old related to the case were placed under parental supervision following intervention from the Department of Social Development.

Community leaders, such as Veranique Williams from the Mitchell’s Plain Community Policing Forum, have expressed the need for greater awareness concerning such issues in schools, advocating for educational discussions to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

As the case progresses towards the criminal court for further hearings on December 4, many await the justice system’s response to this grave situation.
