Three Men Found Shot Dead In Vehicle Near Lenasia South

Police have launched a murder investigation after three men were found shot dead inside a Toyota vehicle in the Vlakfontein informal settlement, near Lenasia South, Johannesburg, on Monday.

According to police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko, officers responded to the scene in extension 3, where they discovered the bodies.

“The police attended to a murder scene where they found three men shot and killed inside a Toyota vehicle. The motive of the shooting is unknown at this stage and investigations continue,” Sibeko stated.

Authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward by contacting the Crime Stop Line at 08600 10111 or by submitting anonymous tips via the MySaps app.

Lenasia Sees Surge in Shootings

This latest incident comes just weeks after a violent shootout between police and suspected criminals in Lenasia. Last month, police officers fatally shot one armed suspect, while several others sustained injuries during a botched ATM bombing attempt.

Major General Nonkululeko Phokane confirmed that a crime intelligence operation involving multiple law enforcement agencies led to a confrontation between police and criminals.

“At the scene, a shootout ensued. One suspect is deceased, four were arrested, two were hospitalised, and five others are on the run,” Phokane said.

Police Crack Down on Armed Criminals

Law enforcement has intensified operations against heavily armed criminal groups engaged in ATM bombings and other violent crimes across Gauteng and nearby provinces.

National police commissioner General Fannie Masemola recently defended the use of deadly force in such situations, stating that police must respond with authority when criminals engage in gun battles.

With crime rates escalating in Lenasia and surrounding areas, the hunt for suspects continues, as authorities vow to bring those responsible to justice.
