Three Kouga Municipality Employees Arrested For Licence Fraud

Three former employees of the Kouga Local Municipality are facing serious charges following a lengthy investigation by the SAPS Anti-Corruption Unit.

The individuals, aged between 49 and 55, are accused of issuing fraudulent driving licences without conducting the required physical driving tests, violating the National Road Traffic Act 93 of 1996.

The trio, employed as examiners at the Humansdorp Traffic Department, at the local municipality, are set to appear in the Humansdorp Magistrate’s Court on Thursday to face charges of fraud, corruption, and other related offences.

SAPS Commitment To Combat Corruption

Major General Zithulele Dladla, Acting Provincial Commissioner, stressed the importance of eliminating corruption in public service.

“This arrest highlights our commitment to eradicating corruption, which poses a significant risk to road safety,” Dladla stated.

The investigation is part of broader efforts to ensure that only qualified drivers are on South African roads.

Wider Crackdown On Licence Fraud

The arrests of the local municipality officers is coming after a similar case in 2024, where 33 individuals were arrested in KwaZulu-Natal for fraudulently obtaining driving licences.

The Department of Transport has since revoked all permits issued under that scheme.
