Three Greyhound Buses Destroyed In Fire At Boksburg Depot

Three Greyhound buses and a trailer were destroyed in a fire at the company’s Jet Park depot in Boksburg on Sunday, the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) has confirmed.

EMPD spokesperson Eric Maloka said that no injuries or fatalities were reported in the incident. Firefighters, assisted by Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) fire rescue teams, managed to contain the blaze and prevent further destruction.

“Fire was well contained and put to rest by our fire crews in conjunction with ACSA fire rescue. Their rescue and water tanker were on site,” Maloka said.

Greyhound Buses Saved From Blaze

According to Maloka, quick action by staff ensured that two other buses parked at the depot were saved from the fire after being driven to a safe location.

The incident has raised concerns about possible damages to the transport company, which resumed operations in South Africa in 2022 following a temporary shutdown.

Cause of Boksburg Fire Under Investigation

Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire, which remains unknown at this stage.

The fire comes as Greyhound continues to serve thousands of long-distance commuters across South Africa, making safety at its depots and facilities a matter of public interest.
