Three Foreign Nationals Arrested As Police Rescue 58 Ethiopian Trafficking Victims In Johannesburg Raid

Police in Johannesburg have rescued 58 Ethiopian nationals and arrested three foreign suspects during a dramatic human trafficking raid on a house in East Town on Friday.

Human Trafficking Victims Found in Distressing Conditions

According to police reports, the operation was launched after officers received credible intelligence about a syndicate involved in transporting trafficking victims from Makhado, Limpopo, to Gauteng.

The victims were reportedly moved in a white Hyundai Venue before being transferred into other vehicles and taken to a so-called safe house, where they were held captive.

Law enforcement surveillance traced the location to 02 East Street, East Town, where a tactical raid was executed. Upon entering the property, police found 58 Ethiopian nationals confined in overcrowded rooms, many displaying visible signs of trauma and exhaustion. Immediate medical and humanitarian assistance was provided to all victims.

Suspects Arrested,  Face Human Trafficking and Kidnapping Charges

During the search, police confiscated a replica firearm, several mobile phones, asylum documents, and a Suzuki Celerio believed to have been used to transport the victims. All seized items will form part of the ongoing investigation.

The three arrested suspects, all foreign nationals, are expected to face charges of human trafficking and kidnapping. Authorities confirmed that the investigation remains active as efforts continue to track down additional members of the syndicate believed to be operating across multiple provinces.
