Thousands March In Cape Town Over Justice For Cwecwe

Thousands of people brought Cape Town’s Foreshore to a standstill yesterday, demanding justice for Cwecwe.

Cwecwe, a seven-year-old girl was brutally raped six months ago at Bergview College in Matatiele, Eastern Cape instigating the march by thousands of persons.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage across South Africa, with thousands condemning the authorities’ handling of the case.

Despite Cwecwe’s parents promptly reporting the incident, no arrests have been made, fuelling public anger and demands for accountability by the thousands of individuals who came out in the street for the march for justice.

School Principal’s Alleged Cover-Up

Police Minister Senzo Mchunu has identified three suspects, including the school principal, in connection with the case.

However, it is alleged that the principal has been uncooperative with the police investigation and even attempted to have Cwecwe transferred out of the school shortly after the incident was reported.

The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) spokesperson Phakamile Majola criticized the South African Police Service (SAPS), stating that it is shocking that no action has been taken despite the child reporting the incident swiftly.

Calls For Accountability And Justice

The incident has led to widespread calls for accountability and justice.

The Eastern Cape Department of Education has since deregistered Bergview College, citing its failure to provide a safe environment for students.

The case has also drawn the attention of Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube, who has demanded accountability.

With pressure mounting on law enforcement to act, the public continues to rally behind Cwecwe and her family, demanding justice for the young victim.
