A violent attack on a farm in Heilbron, Free State, has left one farm worker dead and his wife hospitalised after she was stabbed and sexually assaulted in the early hours of Saturday morning.

According to police, a group of attackers stormed the property in the pre-dawn hours, fatally shooting the male victim before turning on his 34-year-old wife. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she is receiving medical treatment for her injuries.

Authorities swiftly launched an intensive manhunt, leading to the arrest of thirteen suspects connected to the brutal incident.

Heilbron Charges and Court Appearance

The suspects, all facing serious charges including murder, attempted murder, rape, robbery, and stock theft, are expected to appear before the Heilbron Magistrate’s Court soon.

Police investigations are continuing, with forensic teams collecting evidence from the scene and statements from witnesses.

The attack has sent shockwaves through the Heilbron farming community, which has faced several similar incidents in recent years. Police have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.

Lesia reiterated the police’s commitment to combating violent crime:

“We will continue to act decisively against any form of violent crime. Those who attack and terrorise communities will be brought to justice.”
