Third Inmate Dies After Violent Stabbing Attack At Pollsmoor Prison

A third inmate has died following a violent stabbing incident at Pollsmoor Prison earlier this week. The attack, which broke out on Wednesday morning, initially left two prisoners dead and two correctional officials injured.

The Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (POPCRU) confirmed to EWN that both injured correctional officers were taken to hospital for medical treatment.

According to the Department of Correctional Services (DCS), the third offender succumbed to his injuries on Friday morning after being hospitalised since the day of the incident.

Investigation Underway After Deadly Prison Attack

Authorities have described the attack as being directed at correctional officials, leading to the use of force in an effort to restore order within the facility.

The DCS said an investigation has been launched to determine the events that led to the violent confrontation. The department also assured that “all necessary measures are being taken to ensure the safety and stability of the correctional environment at Pollsmoor Prison.”
