“They’ll Find Their Apology In My Grave” — Ngizwe Mchunu Clashes With SAHRC Over LGBTQIA Backlash

Former Ukhozi FM presenter Ngizwe Mchunu has once again ignited public controversy after openly defying the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC).

The broadcaster refused to comply with an order demanding a public apology for his comments about the LGBTQIA+ community, instead doubling down on his stance.

The SAHRC had directed Mchunu to issue a formal apology and retract his remarks, which were deemed offensive. However, Mchunu rejected the directive, unleashing a fiery response that has since dominated online discussions.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, 10 October 2025, Mchunu dismissed the commission’s ruling and challenged its legitimacy.

“I don’t understand how they reached that conclusion. They can f**k off. I stand by what I said because it was meant to preserve our culture,” he said.

Mchunu argued that his remarks were not discriminatory, but instead an expression of Zulu cultural values.

Standing Firm Despite Possible Legal Consequences

Despite potential legal action, the outspoken media personality made it clear he has no intention of retracting or apologising.

“How do they measure a statement to qualify it as hate speech? There is nothing in my utterance that was discriminating against anyone, and there is nothing I’m going to apologise for… at all,” Mchunu added.

His defiance has drawn sharp criticism from human rights activists and social media users, many accusing him of fuelling intolerance while others defend his right to cultural expression.

Doubling down, Ngizwe Mchunu declared that his apology would never come.

“They will find their apology in my grave. I will never bow down from my statement and for representing and protecting the Zulu kingdom, my culture, and heritage,” he said.

The SAHRC has yet to announce what further action, if any, will be taken following Mchunu’s refusal.
