“They Must Fire Me”: Suspended Sibiya Defiant After Police Raid His Home

Suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner, Shadrack Sibiya, has described the police raid on his Centurion home as an “abuse of power.”

On Thursday afternoon, a team of around 50 heavily armed members from the National Intervention Unit, Special Task Force, and Crime Intelligence executed a search and seizure warrant at Sibiya’s residence.

The operation was reportedly linked to an ongoing investigation involving defeating the ends of justice, corruption, and money laundering.

Authorities confiscated several cellphones and a laptop during the search. Sibiya said he believed he was about to be arrested and revealed that he has been under surveillance since his suspension from the South African Police Service (SAPS).

Sibiya Accuses SAPS of ‘Abuse of Power’

Addressing the media outside his home after the raid, the suspended top cop described a tense scene marked by helicopters and constant surveillance.

“We are under siege here, there are helicopters, there is surveillance left, right and centre, this is an abuse of power. Yesterday [Wednesday], there was a black X3 there, and then as you come out, you will see there’s a car this side and a car that side. This is what I have to live with,” said Sibiya.

He expressed deep frustration over what he called unwarranted intimidation and said the ordeal had traumatised his family.

‘They Must Fire Me’: Sibiya Refuses to Step Down

Despite the mounting pressure, Sibiya made it clear that he will not resign from his position. He accused SAPS management of trying to push him out, but vowed to stand firm.

“I wish my colleagues could think of my kids, my family. They haven’t done anything wrong to be traumatised like this. I know they are trying to push me out. I won’t resign; they must fire me,”
he said.

The embattled top cop is expected to appear before Parliament’s ad hoc committee on Monday as part of ongoing proceedings related to his suspension and the allegations against him.
