The starter packs included essential baby items such as bathtubs, towels, feeding supplies and other necessities aimed at easing the first days of motherhood.
“I am really happy because we didn’t have any incidents, even in other hospitals. Those that we have received at Thelle Mogoerane are healthy, and the mothers are healthy too,” she added.
The MEC’s remarks highlighted a broader sense of relief across the province, as hospitals reported no serious complications during Christmas deliveries.
On-Site Birth Registration Strengthened Across Gauteng Hospitals
The Gauteng Department of Health also confirmed that its collaboration with the Department of Home Affairs has been reinforced to ensure immediate birth registration for newborns.

MEC Nkomo-Ralehoko said all 37 public hospitals in the province now have Home Affairs officials stationed on site to assist parents with birth certificate registrations.

“We are spreading the offices, including the community health centres. We do now have some officials from home affairs so that they can capture those children immediately, so I think I am happy with that relationship that we built when the deputy minister and minister were here,” she added.
