Thabo Bester Returns To Free State High Court For Final Pre-Trial Hearing

The highly publicized prison escape case of convicted murderer and Facebook rapist Thabo Bester will return to the spotlight on Friday as the Free State High Court hosts the final pre-trial hearing.
Bester’s co-accused include his partner Dr Nandipha Magudumana, her father Zolile Sekeleni, and former prison officials Senohe Matsoara, Teboho Lipholo, and Tieho Makhotsa, among others.
They face several charges linked to the murderer’s escape, including aiding Bester, arson, and violating a corpse.
Thabo Bester Demands More Time with Legal Team
Bester, who escaped from the Mangaung Correctional Centre in Bloemfontein in May 2022, continues to argue that he has not had sufficient time to consult with his legal representatives.

He maintains that this lack of preparation undermines his right to a fair trial. The question of his legal fees also remains unresolved and is expected to be addressed before proceedings move forward.

Another key issue before the court is the legal representation of Dr Magudumana’s father, Zolile Sekeleni. His application for legal aid has been rejected, raising concerns about how he will be represented when the trial begins.
The outcomes of Friday’s session are expected to set the stage for one of South Africa’s most closely watched trials in recent history.
