Tesla Shareholders Approve Elon Musk’s Record $1 Trillion Pay Package — The Largest In Corporate History

Elon Musk has secured the biggest corporate compensation deal in history after Tesla shareholders voted in favour of his staggering $1 trillion (over R17 trillion) pay package.

The approval cements Musk’s leadership at the electric vehicle giant, despite previous uncertainty over whether he would remain at Tesla if the deal was rejected.

Musk, who also heads SpaceX and the artificial intelligence firm xAI, had warned that he might step away from the company without the new pay plan.

Under the terms of the agreement, Musk could earn up to 12 tranches of the company’s stock — a structure that could eventually give him control over 25% of the company if he achieves specific growth milestones.

Elon Musk’s Ambitious Growth Targets for Tesla

To unlock the full value of his compensation, Musk must drive the company’s market capitalisation from its current $1.5 trillion to an extraordinary $8.5 trillion over the next decade. The plan sets some of the most ambitious targets ever seen in corporate history.

The Tesla board described the package as a key motivator to keep Musk focused on innovation and expansion, particularly in the development of autonomous vehicles, robotaxis, and humanoid robots — areas seen as vital to Tesla’s long-term future.

Musk’s previous involvement in political discussions during U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration had drawn criticism and was seen by some as a distraction from the company’s operations.

However, this record-setting compensation plan signals the company’s commitment to retaining Musk’s leadership as the company continues to push boundaries in electric mobility and robotics.
