Teenagers Arrested For Murder Of Gqeberha Police Constable

Two teenagers, aged 17 and 18, have been arrested in connection with the brutal murder of Constable Callan Andrews, a 29-year-old officer stationed at Gelvandale Police Station in Gqeberha.

The arrests were confirmed by the Directorate for Priority Crimes Investigation (Hawks), whose Gqeberha Serious Organised Crime Investigation Unit apprehended the suspects on Saturday, January 4, 2025.

Details Of Police Constable Murder

Constable Andrews was killed in the line of duty on December 31, 2024, while responding to a complaint on Voisen Road in Katanga, Gelvandale.

According to Hawks spokesperson Warrant Officer Ndiphiwe Mhlakuvana, unknown assailants seized Andrews’ service pistol during the incident and fatally shot him. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.

The teenage suspects are scheduled to appear in the Gelvandale Magistrate’s Court on Monday. Hawks officials have indicated that further arrests are anticipated as investigations remain ongoing.

Brigadier Fernando Luis, Acting Provincial Head of the Hawks, praised the investigative team’s dedication and determination in swiftly bringing suspects to justice.
