Teen Arrested For House Robbery, Kidnapping, Attempted Murder

A 19-year-old suspect has been arrested in Umlazi in connection with a violent house robbery, kidnapping, and attempted murder that occurred in the Folweni area.

The stolen vehicle was recovered by SAPS, the victims rescued, and crucial evidence retrieved.

Stolen Hilux Tracked To Umlazi, Victims Rescued

According to police reports, the ordeal began when suspects stormed a home in Folweni, robbing residents and hijacking a red Toyota Hilux with two victims still inside.

The vehicle was later traced to Gwalagwala Road in J Section, Umlazi, where Bhekithemba police swiftly intervened.

The victims were rescued safely from the vehicle.

While SS Tracking personnel were en route to the scene, they encountered a white VW Polo, from which unknown suspects opened fire.

The assailants fled the scene on foot, abandoning the vehicle.

Stolen Items Found In Getaway Vehicle

The abandoned VW Polo was quickly secured by the Umlazi SAPS trio task team, who found items inside that were reported stolen during the house robbery.

The victims positively identified the recovered goods, further linking the suspects to the Folweni crime.

While police were processing the scene, an unknown man approached and claimed ownership of the Polo, saying he had lent it to his friends.

However, he was immediately recognized by both the SS Tracking member and the robbery victims as one of the suspects who had earlier fled from the scene.

19-Year-Old Arrested and Positively Identified

The 19-year-old suspect was placed under arrest and faces charges of house robbery, kidnapping, and attempted murder.

Colonel Vijend Raju, acting station commander of Umlazi SAPS, commended the teamwork and rapid response. “I applaud the Umlazi SAPS trio task team officers and all law enforcement agencies involved for their dedicated efforts,” he said.
