Netflix has provided further information about a Stranger Things prequel that will require you to leave your couch (at least for the foreseeable future).

Stranger Things: The First Shadow, a stage production, will premiere later this year at the Phoenix Theatre in London’s West End. The production was revealed by Netflix last year.

The play takes place in Hawkins in 1959, more than two decades before the start of the sci-fi/horror series set in the 1980s. Joyce Byers, Jim Hopper, Bob Newby, and Henry Creel will play younger versions of crucial characters (aka Vecna).

Netflix says The First Shadow “will take you right back to the beginning of the Stranger Things story — and to the beginning of the end.” That suggests the play will tie into the show’s fifth and final season, which doesn’t have a release window as yet.

The series’ creators, Matt and Ross Duffer, Stranger Things writer Kate Trefry, and Jack Thorne, the writer of Enola Holmes 2, which stars Millie Bobby Brown, collaborated on The First Shadow.

The play was written by Trefry and is being directed by Tony and Emmy winner Stephen Daldry. Tickets will go on sale this spring, and Netflix promises that those who register on the play’s website will be first in line.

Stranger Things has previously been adapted for games, comic books, novels, and a drive-thru experience by Netflix. The company’s first live stage show is The First Shadow.

It remains to be seen, however, whether a filmed version of the play will be released on the streaming site at some time so that those who can’t make it to London (or, possibly, Broadway) can see it.
