Bose is thinking about your comfort, so if the sounds of the road usually interrupt your concentration as you drive, Bose have just taken care of it. The company announced its new QuietComfort Road Noise Control system designed to cancel out all of the sounds that seep in from outside of your car.
The technology, branded with the same name as Bose’s noise-canceling headphones, is now available to global vehicle manufacturers, it joins Bose Engine Harmonic Cancellation (EHC) and Bose Engine Harmonic Enhancement (EHE) to form the most comprehensive and effective set of technologies for managing sound inside cars, trucks, and SUVs.

According to Bose, its new sound-canceling system utilizes a combination of accelerometers, proprietary signal-processing software, microphones and the vehicle’s audio system to electronically combat unwanted sounds. Bose QuietComfort RNC efficiently solves a critical issue that car makers and consumers have dealt with for decades: how to minimize unwanted sound in the cabin caused by driving over rough roads, grooved concrete, and uneven pavement in US and other places too.
When they sense a potential disturbance, the system kicks into gear to create an acoustic cancellation signal that is delivered through the vehicle’s speakers. Meanwhile, the microphones located around the cabin of the car monitor any residual noise levels and help to adapt the signal over time. As your car ages, the system will get better at blocking out whatever new noises might be leaking through.

Bose official said: “For years, we’ve been asked why we can’t simply adapt our noise cancelling headphone technology to vehicle cabins for a quieter driving experience,” said John Feng, manager, the company’s Automotive, Active Sound Management Solutions. “But we know it’s much more difficult to control noise in a large space like a car cabin compared to the relatively small area around your ears. However, through research advances and our relentless efforts to solve tough problems, we’ve achieved a level of road noise reduction that sets Bose apart from competitive offerings.”
Bose says it will work with car manufacturers throughout the car development process in order to custom-fit the cars with the QuietComfort system. The company best known for audio equipment has been dabbling more in cars lately, including building ride-smoothing technology for autonomous vehicles.
