Tebogo Thobejane’s Ex, Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala, Claps Back In Court: “I’m No Mastermind In Her Hit”

The Tebogo Thobejane’s attempted murder case just keeps getting hotter. On Tuesday, 2 September 2025, her very much married ex-lover, Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala, stood before the Alexandra Magistrates Court and flat-out denied being the brains behind the hit on the former Muvhango actress.

The 49-year-old businessman, who was arrested in May 2025, came for his formal bail application without his co-accused, his wife, Tsakani Matlala ( accused four), Musa Kekana (accused one), and Tiegi Floyd Mabusela (accused two) — they’ll only appear in October.

Cat Says “Not Me, Not Ever”

Matlala is adamant he’s being dragged into something he had nothing to do with. In his affidavit, he told the court:

“I plan to say I am not guilty to all these charges if this case goes to trial. I am sure I will be found not guilty when the State finishes its case, because there is no proof that could make a fair court find me guilty.”

He insisted he never plotted or conspired to harm Tebogo Thobejane, stressing: “I have never met or conspired with anyone to plan or carry out the shooting or killing of the victims listed in the charge sheet — or anyone else.”

Cat also downplayed the seriousness of his past relationship with Tebogo, saying they only dated for 13 months back in 2020. According to him, their short-lived romance has nothing to do with the charges he’s facing now.

Flipping the Script on Tebogo Thobejane

In a twist, Matlala flipped the script and accused Thobejane of contacting him multiple times after the attempted hit. Since he works in the security industry, he claims she reached out between October 2023 and June 2024 asking for protection:

“This is a specific victim who contacted me multiple times after the shooting, seeking my help and protection due to my role in the security industry.”

The matter has been postponed to Monday, 8 September 2025, when the drama will continue to play out in court. For now, Matlala is sticking to his story — he’s no mastermind, and the State has no proof.
