South Africa’s Amapiano scene is wilding right now! Rising star Tebogo G. Mashego, best known for his hit “Biri Marung”, shook the table a few days ago when he went live dropping nuclear allegations against industry heavyweight DJ Maphorisa.

He claimed Phori and his camp have been exploiting young artists — not just financially but allegedly demanding “sexual favours in exchange for music distribution and resources.”

Social media went into overdrive as clips of Mashego crying from Nigeria — saying he was stranded after a gig gone wrong — went viral.

He accused Phori’s team of withholding royalties and said he was being blocked from opportunities unless he played along with the “dark side” of the industry.

In one emotional video, he told fans: “I haven’t seen royalties for ‘Biri Marung’. These people use power and connections to exploit us. Some of them want more than just money… they want control over our bodies too.”

While he didn’t call Phori by name in every clip, the streets immediately linked the dots. Fans dragged up past allegations from podcasts, beef with Shebeshxt, and even Samthing Soweto’s old claims about exploitation.

From Expose to Arrest

But things quickly flipped. After going on multiple heated rants on social media — accusing Phori of everything from drug dealing to not paying him a cent — SAPS swooped in. On Wednesday, 24 September, Mashego was arrested after his online behaviour was deemed too far.

He is expected to appear in court tomorrow for further details.
