Teacher Stabbed By Grade 8 Learner At A Gauteng School

A routine school day turned violent at Hoërskool Die Burger in Bergbron, near Northcliff, Gauteng, when a Grade 8 learner allegedly stabbed a teacher during an altercation on Wednesday, April 9.

The Gauteng Department of Education confirmed that the educator received emergency medical care on site before being rushed to hospital. Their current condition remains unknown.

This disturbing incident comes just a week after a separate assault involving a Grade 12 learner and an educator at the same school, prompting growing alarm over the safety of teachers and students in Gauteng’s classrooms.

Student Apprehended After Attacking Teacher

The learner involved in the stabbing was swiftly taken into custody. Authorities wasted no time launching a formal investigation, while parents of learners were urgently notified.

“The matter is receiving our utmost attention,” said Gauteng Education spokesperson Steve Mabona. He added that the School Governing Body (SGB) will also be conducting its own investigation, reiterating that the SGB is “crucial in ensuring discipline within the school”.
