Three Suspects Dead After Deadly Mamelodi Police Shootout

Three suspects were shot dead during a fierce exchange of gunfire with police in Mamelodi East, Stoffelpark Extension 15, on Tuesday night. According to authorities, the armed group was in possession of illegal firearms when law enforcement closed in.

One suspect managed to escape and remains at large.

Intelligence-Led Police Operation Leads To Suspects’ House

Hawks Gauteng spokesperson Lt-Col Christopher Singo confirmed that the confrontation followed an intelligence tip-off about a group allegedly armed with illegal weapons.

On Tuesday evening, a multidisciplinary operation was launched, bringing together the Hawks, Gauteng Highway Patrol, Airwing, and Mamelodi East police. Officers traced the suspects to a house in Stoffelpark, where they attempted to intercept them.

Weapons Recovered at the Scene

Singo said the men opened fire as police approached, sparking the shoot-out.

“Upon arrival at the premises, a shoot-out ensued between the police and the suspects. Three suspects were fatally wounded by the police and one suspect fled the scene. The police recovered one AR rifle and two pistols,” said Singo.

Police have since launched a manhunt for the fugitive while the recovered weapons undergo forensic testing.
