Two Suspects Die In Police Van Collision In Pretoria

Gauteng police have opened a case of culpable homicide after two suspects died in a collision involving a marked SAPS vehicle and a private car in Sunnyside, Pretoria. The tragic incident occurred on Tuesday while police were transporting the suspects.
Details of the Accident
Gauteng provincial police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo, confirmed the incident.
“Five police officers who were inside the same police van sustained injuries and were taken to the nearest medical care centre for treatment,” said Masondo.
The officers were transporting three suspects who had been arrested for motor vehicle theft when the collision occurred. The police van collided with a Hyundai Atos, resulting in two suspects dying at the scene.

The third suspect was transported to a medical care centre for treatment, while the driver of the private vehicle was unharmed.
Suspect Arrest Before Accident
Prior to the collision, the arrested suspects had been found in possession of car jammers and various sets of car registration plates, according to Masondo.
Investigation Underway
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, and a case of culpable homicide has been opened to determine the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.
