Suspect Linked To Gqeberha Mass Shooting Killed In Police Shoot-Out

On Tuesday night, a tragic shooting incident unfolded in New Brighton, Gqeberha, where five men were found dead in a shack at the Chris Hani informal settlement.
An investigation was launched by Eastern Cape police as they responded to reports of a shooting, discovering that the victims had sustained fatal gunshot wounds. Police Response and Shoot-Out
On Wednesday, October 23, 2024, Eastern Cape police received crucial intelligence regarding a suspect allegedly linked to the mass shooting. According to police spokesperson Warrant Officer Majola Nkohli, the suspect was located inside a residence on Tsewu Street in New Brighton.
As officers approached the location, the suspect, armed with a firearm, appeared ready to shoot, prompting police to return fire. The exchange resulted in the suspect suffering gunshot wounds to the upper body, leading to his death at the scene.
Investigation and Public Appeal
Police confiscated a Glock firearm along with ammunition. An inquest docket has been opened for further investigation into the matter. As authorities work to identify the deceased victims formally, they have not released their names.
