Suspect Caught Red-Handed After Stealing Battery From Police Truck

A suspect has been arrested after a vehicle battery was stolen from an unmarked SAPS Tata truck parked inside the premises of the Ntuzuma Magistrates Court in KwaZulu-Natal.

The recovery was made by members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) on Wednesday morning.
According to RUSA, a witness alerted their Phoenix Operations Centre at around 07:00 after spotting a man carrying a vehicle battery outside the court’s perimeter fence.
RUSA Tracks Down Suspect in Dense Bush
Reaction Officers immediately responded and entered a vacant, overgrown property opposite the court. While searching the bushes, an officer was confronted by a man who was swiftly arrested.
During questioning, the suspect allegedly confessed to stealing the battery from the police truck.

He reportedly told officers he gained access to the premises by slipping through a wire fence beneath an electric line at the front of the court.

He was found in possession of several tools, including a 13-inch spanner, screwdrivers and pliers. RUSA confirmed that the suspect has a previous arrest for business robbery.
The man was handed over to SAPS for further investigation.
