Suspect Arrested For Allegedly Selling Expired Medication In Vrygrond

A 22-year-old suspect has been arrested in Vrygrond for allegedly selling expired medication. Police also discovered the individual was allegedly in South Africa unlawfully.

A 22-year-old man has been arrested in Vrygrond after police allegedly discovered expired medication being sold at a local shop.

The arrest was made on Thursday evening during a patrol operation conducted by officers attached to Operation Prosper. Police say the suspect is expected to appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court in the coming days.

Expired Medication Seized During Vrygrond Police Operation

The discovery was made after police received information regarding the alleged unauthorised sale of medication at a premises in Vrygrond.

According to SAPS spokesperson F.C. van Wyk, officers visited the shop to verify the complaint. Upon inspection, they allegedly found various medicines displayed on shelves and available for sale.

“They went to the shop and noticed the medication displayed on the shelves. It was also found that the medication had expired dates, some dating back to 2025.”

Police Confiscate Assortment Of Expired Medication

The expired medication was confiscated by police as part of their investigation into the matter.

Van Wyk said an assortment of medicines was seized from the premises and booked in as evidence at Muizenberg SAPS.

The confiscated items will form part of the investigation as authorities determine the extent of the alleged offences.

Suspect Allegedly Found To Be In South Africa Illegally

Further investigations conducted by police allegedly revealed that the suspect did not have the required documentation to be in South Africa legally.

“An assortment of medication was confiscated and handed in at Muizenberg SAPS as exhibits. On further investigation it was also discovered that the suspect had no legal documentation to be in South Africa.”

Police have not disclosed what charges the suspect may face, but he is expected to appear before the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court soon.
