Suspect Arrested For Possession Of Drugs Worth R2 Million En Route To Cape Town

On Friday, 19 April, at approximately 16:20 pm, law enforcement authorities made a significant drug seizure on the N2 near Sir Lowry’s Pass. The estimated value of the confiscated drugs is a staggering R2 million.
The successful operation was the result of a collaborative effort between the Hawks South African Narcotics Enforcement Bureau (SANEb) and Crime Intelligence’s Counter Narcotics and Gangs units in the Western Cape.
Acting on credible information, these agencies swiftly responded to intelligence regarding a vehicle transporting drugs from the Eastern Cape to Cape Town.

Law enforcement officials spotted the suspect vehicle and promptly conducted a search. To their surprise, they discovered a hidden compartment in the back of the vehicle containing 50 packets (50,000) of the illegal drug known as mandrax.
The driver, a 33-year-old individual, was arrested on the spot and is now facing charges of dealing in drugs. He is scheduled to appear in the Strand Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 22 April 2024.
