Stuart Scharnick To File Case Against Dumisani Khumalo Over Madlanga Commission Testimony

Durban businessman James Stuart Scharnick is expected to lay charges against Crime Intelligence head, Dumisani Khumalo, in Pretoria on Wednesday.

This development follows Khumalo’s testimony before the Madlanga Commission in Pretoria, where he alleged that Scharnick was linked to suspended National Deputy Police Commissioner for Crime Detection, Lieutenant-General Shadrack Sibiya.

During his appearance, Khumalo claimed that a vehicle driven by Sibiya was registered in Scharnick’s name.

Dumisani Khumalo’s Testimony Raises Questions at the Madlanga Commission

Khumalo told the commission that the Toyota bakkie used by Sibiya on the day of a police raid was officially registered to Scharnick.

“The list is reflected. There are lots of questions. If you commit so many thefts and hijackings within the space of two years and you are found guilty, how many years and when are you serving your sentences.

“Because everything is like in a very short space of time, that is part of the investigation that is still ongoing. That is the criminal profile of the owner of the bakkie,” explained Khumalo.

According to Khumalo’s evidence, Scharnick has been charged in 34 criminal cases, with 18 convictions, 11 withdrawn cases, and five acquittals.

Scharnick has reportedly taken exception to these statements and plans to open a case against the Crime Intelligence boss in response to what he views as damaging allegations.
