Rapper Stilo Magolide has made an emotional yet startling confession about the late Riky Rick’s death — saying that while the news broke his heart, it didn’t take him by surprise.

Speaking on The 3rd Element of Hip Hop Podcast with DJ Lemonka, Stilo reflected on the passing of his close friend and collaborator, revealing that he had long sensed that Riky might one day take his own life.

“I did believe it. I wasn’t shocked,” Stilo said. “I was more like, ‘Oh snap. I didn’t expect it to come this soon, but I always expected it.’ Just the type of person he was, you know? He was always someone who wanted to live life on his own terms. Everything he did was his way.”

Riky Rick — born Rikhado Muziwendlovu Makhado — took his own life on February 23, 2022, leaving the music industry and his fans reeling.

Known for his iconic hits and visionary creativity, Riky was also a founding member of the trailblazing collective Boyz n Bucks, alongside Stilo and other heavyweights who helped define South African hip hop.

Despite claiming he wasn’t shocked by Riky’s death, Stilo admitted that the loss hit him deeply. He expressed regret that those closest to Riky couldn’t hold onto him a little longer.

“I was just more disappointed that maybe the people around him at the time didn’t have the strength to hold him much longer or convince him that we still had more time,” he said. “There’s things to do, you know?”
