Standard Bank Customers Express Frustration Over Delayed Salaries

On Friday morning, Standard Bank experienced an influx of calls from customers voicing their frustration regarding delayed salary payments. Many clients, accustomed to receiving their salaries on the 25th of each month, were dismayed to find their accounts devoid of the expected funds.

High Call Volumes and Inquiries
The bank’s call centre was inundated with inquiries, particularly around 6 AM, as numerous customers sought explanations for the unusual delay. One prominent customer, Siphokazi Malinga, vented on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “What in the world is happening with Standard Bank?
People haven’t received their salaries, I’m one of those people. Being a Standard Bank customer is starting to be a huge risk.” This sentiment was echoed by many other frustrated clients who felt the burden of having their payday disrupted.
Response From Standard Bank
In response to the crisis, spokesperson Ross Linstrom confirmed to SurgeZirc SA that a problem had indeed occurred. “We can confirm that there was a slight delay in processing salary transactions this morning,” he stated.

According to Linstrom, all payments scheduled for that Friday were ultimately processed shortly after 6 AM, and the bank issued an apology for any inconvenience caused.
This incident comes on the heels of concerns regarding fraud activity, which has seen an uptick as fraudsters target customer accounts around paydays. Standard Bank maintains that there have been no security breaches in their systems despite these challenges.
