Springboks Draw Italy, Georgia And Romania In 2027 Rugby World Cup Pool B

Two-time defending Rugby World Cup champions South Africa have been drawn alongside Italy, Georgia and Romania in Pool B for the 2027 tournament in Australia, the draw revealed in Sydney on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, hosts Australia will open the competition with a high-stakes clash against New Zealand.

The six-week Rugby World Cup, running from 1 October to 13 November, will feature 24 teams competing across 52 matches. Rassie Erasmus’ Springboks, four-time champions, are aiming to secure a third consecutive title after their 2025 triumph.

Following a flawless November tour and retaining the Rugby Championship, South Africa enters the tournament on an eight-match unbeaten streak, carrying momentum into the new year.

Springboks Warned Against Complacency Ahead of Italy Clash

Erasmus cautioned his team against underestimating any opponent. “There have been surprises in the tournament before, so we’ll need to be up mentally and physically for every match,” he said.

He added, “Italy may be ranked 10th in the world, but they showed us what they are capable of when they hit their straps earlier this season.”

The Springboks could face New Zealand in a blockbuster quarter-final if both sides top their pools and advance past the Round of 16, setting the stage for a potential rematch of past tournament showdowns.

Scott Robertson’s All Blacks, seeking their fourth title and first since 2015, will take on Australia, Chile and debutants Hong Kong in Pool A. New Zealand have only lost one pool match across 10 previous World Cups, making them a formidable challenge.
