Springboks Show Champion Qualities Against England At Twickenham

The Springboks made it two wins from two on their end-of-year tour, defeating a spirited England side 29-20 in front of a sold-out Twickenham crowd.

It wasn’t the Boks’ best performance, struggling to find rhythm and continuity, but moments of brilliance from stars like Eben Etzebeth and Cheslin Kolbe kept them ahead.

Moments of Brilliance Shine Through

Even when discipline and execution faltered, key players stepped up with crucial turnovers to keep England at bay. England started strong, with Marcus Smith sparking an early try.

But the Springboks quickly answered with a solo effort from Grant Williams, showcasing his dangerous ball-handling skills. A charge-down from Etzebeth led to a try by Pieter-Steph du Toit, igniting the Boks.

First Half Fireworks

The Boks picked up their third try with a superb crossfield kick from Manie Libbok to Cheslin Kolbe. England fought back, taking advantage of some poor red-zone defence to close the gap to 19-17 at halftime.

Both sides had tries disallowed early in the second half, but a penalty by Smith briefly gave England the lead.

A fantastic break from Damian de Allende set up Kolbe for his second try, followed by a tough kick from Pollard, putting the Boks nine points clear. Despite a yellow card for Gerhard Steenekamp late in the game, the Springboks held firm, winning crucial turnovers to deny England any hope of a comeback.

Springboks Physicality

The physicality of the Springbok behemoths was on full display, with Eben Etzebeth and Pieter-Steph du Toit making their presence felt. Their towering limbs blocked English clearing kicks, and Libbok’s cross-kick found Kolbe for another try.

While the Springboks didn’t fully unleash their attacking phase play, their style and strength were evident. England put up a valiant effort, but it was never enough against the world champions.
