South Africa’s Springbok coach, Jacques Nienaber, expressed profound disappointment in his team’s performance against the All Blacks last week.

However, after a productive two-day camp in Pretoria, the squad has gained valuable insights into their shortcomings. Following a short break for the players who endured a 35-20 defeat in Auckland, the entire Springbok squad convened for the camp on Wednesday.

Currently trailing New Zealand by four log points, with a points deficit of 28, the Springboks’ fate in the competition hinges on the result of the Australia versus New Zealand match in Melbourne on Saturday morning.

A win for the All Blacks would secure them the title. Conversely, should they suffer a defeat, Nienaber’s men will be fully aware of the task at hand when they face the Pumas at 5.05pm at Emirates Airline Park later that afternoon.

Nienaber expressed the significance of the past two days, wherein the team conducted a sincere assessment of their performance against New Zealand and pinpointed the areas requiring improvement.

“Last week’s display left us bitterly disappointed. We are fully cognizant that repeating the same mistakes will hinder our ability to get back on track and build momentum,” said Nienaber.

Having concluded the team’s debriefing on the New Zealand match and completed four training sessions, alongside several gym workouts, Nienaber stated,

“We have dedicated ourselves to finding solutions for the errors we made last week, and during our field sessions, we have already commenced rectifying them. It’s time to move forward and shift our focus solely onto Argentina when we regroup on Sunday.”

Continuing their preparations in Pretoria early next week, the Springboks will then journey to Johannesburg on Wednesday, where they will wrap up their on-field preparations for the upcoming match.
