Exciting news has arrived for football fans as Orlando Pirates have agreed on a deal to sign defender Deano Van Rooyen from Stellenbosch.
According to SABC Sport, the 27-year-old player has been a target for Pirates for some time now. This deal marks a significant move in the South African football transfer market.
The move has been much anticipated, especially after Van Rooyen was surprisingly left on the bench during Stellenbosch’s impressive 3-1 MTN8 quarterfinal win over TS Galaxy last weekend.
Following the match, Stellies coach Steve Barker dismissed any speculations, stating that Van Rooyen’s benching was not related to any transfer plans. He emphasized the club’s desire to retain its players and compete for honors in the league and cup competitions.
However, it’s known that Stellenbosch have a history of selling players if the right offer is made. This includes notable transfers of Ashley Du Preez and Sibongiseni Mthethwa to Kaizer Chiefs and Junior Mendieta to Mamelodi Sundowns.
Barker’s side might also find it challenging to retain Jayden Adams, a central midfielder linked with a move to Sundowns.
