Cricket South Africa (CSA) has made the decision to relieve David Teeger of the SA under-19 captaincy for the upcoming Cricket World Cup.
This decision comes after Teeger made comments in support of the Israel Defence Force during an acceptance speech at the Jewish Achiever Awards.

Although an inquiry conducted by advocate Wim Trengove found that Teeger had not breached CSA’s code of conduct, CSA cited security concerns as the reason for their decision.
CSA expressed concern that protests related to the conflict in Gaza may target Teeger, potentially resulting in conflict or violence.
As the safety of all participants and spectators is of utmost importance, CSA has decided to remove Teeger from the captaincy for the tournament. However, Teeger will remain an active member of the squad.
CSA emphasized that this decision was made in the best interests of all the players, the SA U19 team, and David himself. They wished him and the team success in the tournament. The announcement of the new captain will be made in due course.

During the inquiry, Trengove acknowledged that while some may find Teeger’s comments offensive, they should be understood within the context of freedom of expression. He concluded that Teeger’s statements did not imply approval or condonation of any crime.
The SA under-19 team will commence their World Cup campaign against the West Indies in Potchefstroom next Friday.
