The All Blacks delivered a commanding performance to crush the Pumas 42-10 in the second test of the Rugby Championship on Saturday.
Will Jordan scored two of the six tries for New Zealand, marking a significant improvement from their shocking defeat by Argentina the previous week.
Fly-half Damian McKenzie was instrumental in the All Blacks’ triumph, scoring 17 points and demonstrating superior general play compared to the first test. McKenzie successfully converted all six tries, opening the scoring after capitalizing on a chip from Jordie Barrett.
Captain Ardie Savea also contributed significantly with his 27th test try, equaling the record held by former skipper Richie McCaw for the most by an All Blacks forward.
The foundation of New Zealand’s victory was laid by the forwards, who responded to Coach Scott Robertson’s call for “redemption” following their previous defeat. The All Blacks’ forward pack overpowered the Argentine scrum and controlled the breakdown, leading to a lopsided scoreline of 35-3 by halftime.
Wingers Caleb Clarke and Will Jordan were put into space for tries, with Jordan capitalizing on a blindside break from scrum-half TJ Perenara.
This victory extends the All Blacks’ remarkable unbeaten streak at Eden Park, further solidifying their dominance in Auckland.
McKenzie’s performance was particularly noteworthy, mixing a long kicking game with clever chips. Notably, New Zealand has now won 50 tests since their last defeat at this venue in 1994.
As the game proceeded, Argentina tightened their defence, leading to a drawn second half.
Juan Cruz MallÃa scored the only Argentine try of the match late in the second half, after which a lull ensued, culminating in a late yellow card for All Blacks hooker Asafo Aumua for a high tackle.
