The two-week search for a missing Soweto couple has ended in tragedy after their bodies were discovered inside a submerged vehicle in the Klip River on Wednesday.
Shocking Discovery Near Lakeview Rea Vaya Station
The couple, last seen on Sunday, 2 February 2025, was found in their white Hyundai i10, which was located in a stream along Chris Hani Road near the Lakeview Rea Vaya Bus Station in Mofolo South, Soweto.

Emergency services were dispatched after reports of a submerged vehicle. Upon retrieval, authorities confirmed that two bodies were inside.
Investigation Launched: Foul Play or Tragic Accident?
Gauteng police spokesperson Mavela Masondo stated that an inquest docket has been opened to determine how the vehicle ended up in the river.
Police are considering several possibilities. One theory is accidental drowning, as the area is prone to flooding. However, foul play has not been ruled out, as the exact circumstances remain unclear.
