South Africa’s netball team continued their impressive campaign at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow with a commanding 78-30 victory over Northern Ireland on Tuesday afternoon.

The result gives the Proteas a third consecutive win in the tournament and keeps them unbeaten heading into a crucial clash against Australia.

Having enjoyed a rest day before the fixture, South Africa entered the match with a flawless record against Northern Ireland, having won all three of their previous meetings.

Although Northern Ireland converted the opening centre pass, the Proteas quickly settled into the contest and seized control, building a 14-8 lead by the end of the first quarter.

Proteas Extend Their Lead Before Half-Time

Head coach Jenny van Dyk made changes early in the second quarter, introducing Kamogelo Maseko and Jamie van Wyk.

The pair adapted immediately, helping South Africa maintain the tempo and intensity that had already troubled their opponents. The Proteas won the quarter 18-10, taking a comfortable 32-18 advantage into the interval.

South Africa Dominate Third Quarter To Seal Victory

South Africa raised their level further after the break. Van Dyk introduced Sannarie Visser, Tarle Mathe and Elmere van der Berg, while experienced players Karla Pretorious and captain Khanyisa Chawane returned to the court.

Starting the third quarter with a 14-point lead, the Proteas produced their most dominant spell of the match, overwhelming Northern Ireland 21-4 to open up an unassailable advantage.

With the result effectively secured, South Africa entered the final quarter firmly in control.

Van Dyk used the closing stages to rotate her entire bench, ensuring every available player received valuable court time. Despite the changes, the Proteas maintained their defensive intensity and attacking sharpness, eventually completing a comprehensive 48-point victory.

The unbeaten South Africans now face their toughest test of the group stage when they meet Australia on Wednesday at 22:00.
