Soshanguve Mass Shooting Case Postponed For Further Investigation

The Pretoria Magistrate’s Court has postponed the case involving the mass shooting of patrollers at the Marry Me Informal Settlement in Soshanguve to April 17, 2025.

This decision comes as the South African Police Service (SAPS) continues the  investigation into the Soshanguve shooting, including conducting an identity parade to identify all suspects involved.

The accused, a 27-year-old Zimbabwean national, is facing 16 charges, including six counts of murder, five counts of attempted murder, and two counts of robbery with aggravating circumstances in the Soshanguve attack.

Attack Details

The attack occurred in the early hours of March 22, 2025, when a group of 12 patrollers was ambushed by five men,Marry Me Informal Settlement in Soshanguve with one of whom was armed.

The suspects reportedly opened fire on the patrollers, killing four on the spot, while two others later died in hospital.

The attackers also assaulted the victims with rocks and wooden poles and set their bodies on fire.

The accused, arrested on March 24 for unrelated charges, had been involved in a separate case of possession of unlicensed firearms and immigration violations.

Uncertainty Surrounds Third Suspect In Case

Contradicting previous statements made by Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi, the police have yet to confirm the arrest of a third suspect linked to the Soshanguve mass shooting.

Lesufi had earlier announced that three suspects had been arrested and had confessed to the crime.

However, SAPS spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana clarified that investigations are ongoing and additional witnesses are still being sought.
