Soshanguve Horror: Four Shot, Burnt in Brutal Attack Amid Community Quarrel

A deadly confrontation between community patrollers and a group of people in Soshanguve’s Marry Me informal settlement turned into a gruesome massacre, leaving four people fatally shot and partially burnt, while eight others were injured.

The violent altercation erupted in the early hours of Saturday morning, prompting police intervention.

Police Find Partially Burnt Bodies

Gauteng police spokesperson Brig Brenda Muridili confirmed that officers arrived at the crime scene around 6 a.m., where they discovered four charred bodies with gunshot wounds.

“Witnesses reported that other victims—confirmed to be eight—were rushed to hospital in private vehicles and ambulances,” Muridili stated.

What Sparked the Deadly Clash?

Preliminary investigations suggest the violence began at 3 a.m. when a group of community-based patrollers were preparing to start their shift.

“While gathering for their patrols, the group noticed five individuals walking in the street. As they approached them, a quarrel broke out, escalating into a deadly attack,” Muridili explained.

The exact motive behind the incident remains unclear and will form part of ongoing investigations.

Police Mobilize Specialized Units

Authorities have launched a major investigation, with provincial and district serious and violent crime units, along with forensic experts, conducting interviews with witnesses.

Additionally, public order police have been deployed in the area to restore calm and prevent further violence.

While police work to uncover what triggered the deadly attack, tensions remain high in Soshanguve.

With a growing number of violent vigilante-style attacks in South African communities, authorities face mounting pressure to prevent such tragedies from becoming the norm.
