Sonia Mbele’s Son, Donelle Mbele, Out On R1k Bail Amid Rape Charges

The son of TV actress and producer Sonia Mbele, Donelle Mbele (23), appeared in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court today on two counts of rape filed by his ex-girlfriend. This follows allegations she first brought to light on social media, detailing harrowing accounts of sexual assault.

Ex-Girlfriend’s Testimony

The victim claimed Donelle assaulted her in December, describing incidents of being pinned down and violated despite her pleas for him to stop. She wrote, “I was violated by someone I trusted, someone I held close to my heart. He disregarded my consent.”

Despite past abusive behaviour, the victim explained that she gave him another chance, only to experience further harm.

Donelle, visibly anxious in court, appeared with cornrows, a designer T-shirt, and using two crutches. His demeanour drew attention as he faces mounting legal troubles.

Granted Bail Amid Controversy

The court granted Donelle bail at R1,000. National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane confirmed his next court appearance is set for 10 February 2025, where he will face the two rape charges.

This isn’t Donelle’s first brush with the law. In 2022, he was arrested for physically assaulting his then-girlfriend, Reokeditswe Makete, after an altercation allegedly sparked by infidelity. At the time, Reokeditswe accused him of taking control of her social media accounts during the fallout.

Though the charges were later dropped, the incident prompted Sonia Mbele to address the public, revealing her personal experiences with abuse. She admitted to enduring years of physical and emotional trauma, vowing to break the cycle with her son.

“I refuse to raise a man like his father. Rehab, therapy, and internal healing will prevail,” Sonia said, adding that Donelle must take full accountability for his actions.
