Somizi Under Fire For Disrespecting Ndebele Culture

Somizi Mhlongo has found himself in some serious hot water. The former Idols SA judge was spotted rocking a traditional Ndebele outfit that many say is reserved for married women. Yes, it was only for the makotisi until Somizi came along.
Somizi Backlash
Netizens didn’t hold back in calling him out. A Twitter user, @zweli_thixo, said it loud and clear, expressing his disappointment: “In my culture, you are not allowed to wear this blanket if you haven’t gone for initiation.” Ouch!

Dear @somizi
In my culture you not allowed to wear this blanket if you haven’t went for initiation. But that is not really important.
They allowed you to compromise the attire you wearing. You were supposed to dress like a man not as a married woman because that’s the attire… pic.twitter.com/xhEK9rzAph

Others joined in and expressed how celebrities often treat cultures and traditions with zero respect, “Celebs just don’t respect our traditions!” and even pointing fingers at the elderly Ndebele woman (Esther Mahlangu) who stood with him. Can you believe that people feel like their voices aren’t heard?
The Debate Continues
Some folks agreed, saying that celebrities like Somizi just don’t care about cultural nuances anymore. Another user, @ngwanamzansi, shared that disrespecting tradition seems to have become a trend. Honestly, it’s like everyone is just doing what they want without thinking twice!
Celebrities don’t respect anything. Culture and traditions mean nothing to them
