Somizi Joins ‘Justice For Cwecwe’ Fight, Offers To Cover Legal Fees

Like many South Africans, Somizi Mhlongo is calling for Justice for Cwecwe, a primary school learner who was allegedly raped at her school in Matatiele, Eastern Cape.

Despite the horrific incident happening in October 2024, it has only recently become public knowledge, sparking national outrage.

SOMIZI MHLONGO: “I WILL CANCEL EVERY GIG IF I HAVE TO”

Taking to social media, the media personality expressed his heartbreak over the case and his determination to see justice served.

“Justice has to be served. If it means I am one of the people outside the court, making sure that the perpetrator faces the wrath of the law, so be it.”

“I will cancel every gig that I have if it means being there will help make sure justice is served.”

In a powerful show of support, Somizi also pledged to pay the family’s legal fees, ensuring they get the best representation. “I am willing to pay anything and everything that I have.”

SCHOOL DEREGISTERED AFTER PRINCIPAL BLOCKS INVESTIGATION

Cwecwe’s mother—whose name is being withheld—revealed that she discovered the unthinkable after taking her sick daughter to the doctor. The seven-year-old later told her parents that she had been attacked at school while waiting for transport.

Following the allegations, SABC reports that the school has been deregistered, after the principal refused to cooperate with investigators.

MARCH & PETITION DEMANDING ACCOUNTABILITY

Meanwhile, calls for Justice for Cwecwe are gaining momentum across South Africa.

  • On Change.org, a petition demanding accountability from the school has gone viral.
  • In Durban, anti-GBV activists took to the streets, marching from King Dinizulu Park to Durban Central Police Station, calling for immediate action.

The public outcry has only grown louder, with many demanding swift arrests and transparency from authorities.
