Sol Phenduka Scores Radio Award Nomination From Station That Fired Him

Sol Phenduka Scores Radio Award Nomination From Station That Fired Him

Mzansi loves a poetic comeback, and Sol Phenduka is living one in HD. A few short months after Kaya 959 kicked him to the curb, the Podcast and Chill favourite has bagged a Telkom Radio Awards nomination—representing the same radio station that showed him the door. If irony had a face, it would be Sol smiling into the camera.

The fan-favourite presenter was nominated in the Best Traffic Presenter category for Siz the World, one of Kaya’s nine nominations announced on Monday, 17 November 2025. And while fans were expecting a little pettiness from Sol, he kept it cute, writing:

“Look who’s nominated for best traffic presenter at the radio awards.”

No shade. No subtext. Just a man with a nomination, a soft flex, and the loudest silent revenge.

Fired in August. Nominated in November. Sol Phenduka’s Career Is Doing Cartwheels

Back in August, Sol was suspended due to the whirlwind multi-million-rand defamation case involving Minnie Dlamini and his co-host MacG. The drama originated from MacG’s comments about Minnie’s past relationships and her hygiene — a scandal that still has the timeline arguing.

Weeks later, Kaya 959 terminated Sol’s contract completely, sparking outrage among listeners who felt he was collateral damage in a war he didn’t start.

Now? He’s back in the spotlight—without even being behind the mic.

And the streets are convinced: This nomination is karma doing her job.

Fans are already speculating whether Kaya will try calling him back now that he’s being publicly acknowledged for a job they wouldn’t let him finish.

Mzansi Reacts — “This Is Karma in Real-Time!”

As expected, the timeline went absolutely feral. From laughter to prophecy to pure disbelief, here’s how the streets reacted:

  • Sizwe Dhlomo: “Lol! Congratulations, champ!”
  • Ezyflo: “They are gonna want you back asap if they haven’t called you by now. Expect good news in January, Sol.”
  • anelisangwane_: “Nah, your ancestors definitely have your back!”
  • TheRealKoky: “Scenes when you win it.”
  • Mogoshadi_: “Let’s vote for Sol. I want to see something.”
  • unclescrooch: “It will be very awkward when you win.”
  • UMntuNgabantu: “Imagine being awarded for doing a great job… for a job that you are not doing.”
  • ntokomduna: “I’m scared that if Sol wins the award, it will be received by Kaya representatives.”
  • MphoTaedi:
“Kaya was mad fun with you in there. You paired so well with Sizwe. I wish things had worked out.”
  • TshepoRamabu2: “They must hire you again! You’re the best traffic reporter.”

He hasn’t announced a radio comeback yet, but this nomination has the streets buzzing. If he wins, the embarrassment for Kaya will be historic. Even worse? They may have to send a representative to collect his award.

Whether he gets reinstated or moves on to an even bigger opportunity, one thing is clear:

Sol Phenduka just proved that you can’t keep a real one down — even when you fire him.
