‘Skeem Saam’ Actor Skhumbuzo Mbatha Arrested For Drunk Driving

Skeem Saam actor and Thobela FM presenter Skhumbuzo Mbatha, best known as Meneer Manaka, had a rough weekend after being arrested for driving under the influence.

Skhumbuzo Mbatha Arrested at Roadblock

Mbatha was stopped on Saturday, 8 March, around 8:30 PM at a JMPD roadblock in Parktown. Officers reportedly noticed a strong smell of alcohol coming from his white Nissan Navara.

After failing a breathalyzer test—exceeding the 0.51 mg/l legal limit—he was taken into custody, where police proceeded with a blood test. The actor was then transferred to Parkwood police station and formally charged with drunk driving.

Bail and Court Date

Fortunately, he didn’t spend too long behind bars—Mbatha was released on Sunday morning after posting R1,500 bail. He is expected to appear in court this week, though the exact date remains undisclosed.

Attempts to contact the actor for comment have gone unanswered. Meanwhile, Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi stated that she could not confirm nor deny the arrest due to lack of access to SAPS records.

A History of Legal Drama

This isn’t Mbatha’s first legal incident. In 2020, he was wrongfully arrested after giving a mysterious woman a lift home.

On top of that, in 2021, he was scammed out of R15K by a close friend in a failed mining deal. He reportedly loaned the money to Buti Mthembu under the promise of a lucrative return, but the deal turned out to be a fraud.

With this latest incident, fans are left wondering if the actor’s bad luck streak is ever going to end.
