Sizwe Dhlomo Claps Back At Bheki Cele’s ‘Apartheid Cop’ Comment About Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi

Whew! Things got messy at the Ad Hoc Committee this week after former Police Minister Bheki Cele threw some serious shade — and Sizwe Dhlomo was not having it.

During his appearance before the Ad Hoc Committee investigating alleged corruption in the criminal justice system on 23 October 2025, Cele made some jaw-dropping claims about Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.

Cele said, “I heard Malema saying Mkhwanazi is a career policeman. Yes, he is an apartheid career police, created to ensure that black men don’t survive.”

Newzroom Afrika posted the clip online, and it didn’t take long before Sizwe Dhlomo jumped in to fact-check Cele in real time. Taking to his verified X (formerly Twitter) account, the outspoken media personality wrote:M“Lol! Mkhwanazi wasn’t even a cop back then…”

And just like that, the streets of X went up in flames.

Mzansi Reacts to Sizwe Dhlomo’s Clapback

As usual, the comment section turned into a full-on debate — with everyone trying to decode what Cele really meant.

@lavidaNOTA joked: “He means Shadrack Sibiya, surely?”
@VuyelwaMdlalos1 wrote: “I don’t think he meant it in a literal sense 🤭.”
@KhayelitshaE added: “He was trained by apartheid police officers, I think that’s what he meant 😂🤣.”

Some users even came through with receipts. @FakesfaroFaro reminded everyone: “General Mkhwanazi was appointed in his current rank on 24 November 2011, just after Bheki Cele was removed as National Police Commissioner. He basically replaced Cele after he was fired.”

Meanwhile, others dragged Sizwe for being too quick on the trigger.
@bafana_msimang clapped back: “Did you even get the question they asked, or are you on the ‘take what I hear and respond’ bandwagon?”
@chiefcebo_ teased: “Finally, there is something that Sizwe does not know.”

While the debate raged on, one thing was clear — Mzansi loves a good political clapback moment, especially when it involves heavyweights like Sizwe Dhlomo and Bheki Cele.

But whether Cele’s comment was literal or symbolic, he definitely stirred the pot, and Sizwe made sure to turn up the heat.
