On Wednesday afternoon, a bakkie and a light motor vehicle collided head-on on the N14 between Randfontein and Carletonville, injuring six people, including two children.
According to an ER24 spokesperson, paramedics and other services arrived on the scene at 17h37. “Paramedics found a bakkie in the left-hand lane while a light motor vehicle was found on the side of the road.
“Four adults and two children, an 8-year-old boy and a 14-year-old, were found lying around the bakkie and car.”
Paramedics assessed the patients, according to Meiring, and discovered that the two children and two adults had suffered numerous injuries and were in critical condition, while the remaining two adults had suffered minor to moderate injuries.
“Paramedics treated the patients and provided the critically injured with advanced life support interventions. Once treated, the two critically wounded adults were airlifted by private medical helicopters to nearby hospitals while the remaining patients were transported by ambulances.”
He also stated that local authorities were on the scene conducting additional investigations. Meanwhile, two men in their 40s were critically injured in a single bakkie rollover on Tuesday evening at the intersection of Pomona and High Roads in Kempton Park.
“Paramedics arrived on the scene at 17:55 to find a bakkie on its roof and the driver entrapped. The passenger was found outside the bakkie. The man in the bakkie had suffered head injuries and was in a critical condition.”
According to ER24’s Ross Campbell, the man was extracted before being treated with Advanced Life Support interventions and immobilized. “Another service on scene had by this time already called for a private medical helicopter to transport the patient to a hospital for further care.”
He said the 45-year-old passenger was also found to be in critical condition. “He was treated with Advanced Life Support interventions, immobilised and transported to a private hospital in the area for further care.”
