SIU Confirms Dual Raids On Tembisa Hospital Tender Mogul Hangwani Maumela In Sandton And Mpumalanga

The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) has confirmed it is carrying out simultaneous operations in two provinces targeting properties linked to Hangwani Maumela, the businessman associated with controversial Tembisa Hospital tenders.

Officials are currently at Maumela’s luxurious three-storey Sandton home, seizing high-end vehicles and furniture.

Dozens of law enforcement officers are conducting a thorough search of the residence, while trucks are lined up outside to remove confiscated items. Maumela has not been seen at the property during the operation.

Mpumalanga Car Dealership Also Targeted

At the same time, SIU teams have raided a car dealership in Mpumalanga, although authorities have not confirmed whether this is directly connected to the investigation into Maumela’s alleged tender syndicate.

SIU spokesperson Ngwako Motsieng said: “Yes, we can confirm that there was an operation in Witbank; however, we were not able to take the cars. Like I said, we can’t talk further until the legal processes are finalised.”

Maumela has been linked to the SIU investigation following the exposure of irregular tender practices at Tembisa Hospital, first brought to light by the late whistleblower Babita Deokaran.

Authorities continue to probe alleged looting, with the current raids forming part of ongoing efforts to recover assets and uncover evidence of wrongdoing.
