Shop Attack Leaves Owner Dead, Assistant Raped

A horrific crime occurred in the early hours of March 17, 2025, leaving the shop owner dead  and his assistant raped.

The duo  were inside the shop asleep when they heard noises on the roof and voices demanding entrance through the burglarized main door.

Seven suspects, aged between 24 and 36, were  said to have carried out the heinous crime.

The suspects allegedly tied up the 45-year-old shop owner, poured diesel on him, and set him on fire.

The shop assistant was reportedly raped by the suspects, who also looted groceries and forced the assistant to provide the pin for a cash transfer.

The suspects then set the business alight and fled the scene on foot, carrying the female victim to a nearby household

Seven suspects, aged between 24 and 36, have been arrested by Tsomo SAPS members for allegations of robbery, arson, murder, kidnapping, and rape.

However the Police disclosed that, one of the suspects is still at large and investigation are ongoing.

Police Vow To Bring All Suspects To Justice

The shop owner succumbed to burn wounds at Butterworth hospital, while the assistant was rescued and taken to hospital for medical and emotional attention.

The District Commissioner, Major General Rudolph Adolph, expressed concern about the series of crimes in the area and urged SAPS members to leave no stone unturned in bringing the perpetrators to book.

An eighth suspect is still at large, and police are working to apprehend them as soon as possible.
