Shocking WhatsApp Leaks Tie Tender Tycoon And Accused Killer To Big Names At Madlanga Commission

The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry took a dramatic turn after explosive WhatsApp messages between tender tycoon and attempted murder accused, Vusimuzi “Cat” Matalala, and several prominent figures were revealed.
The evidence, forming part of an anonymous witness’s testimony, was presented on Tuesday. The witness, known only as Witness X, began testifying anonymously before safety concerns prompted evidence leader, Advocate Adila Hassim, to read the statement on their behalf.
Businessman and ANC Backer Linked to R360-Million SAPS Tender
According to the evidence, the WhatsApp exchanges show alleged collusion between Matalala and North West businessman and ANC supporter, Suliman Carrim. It’s alleged that Carrim used his political ties to help Matalala secure payments from the South African Police Service (SAPS) related to his R360-million tender.
In exchange, Matalala allegedly paid Carrim for his assistance. The messages further suggest that Carrim “sorted out” Hangwani Morgan Maumela, who has been linked to the R2-billion Tembisa Hospital scandal.
R1.5-Million Payment Raises Red Flags
Reading from the evidence, Advocate Hassim told the commission:
“On 4 February 2025, Mr Matalala sends a proof of payment to Mr Carrim in the amount of R1.5-million. Mr Matalala calls Mr Carrim, which is followed by a message that one ‘Morgan’ is sorted. This is possibly in reference to one Morgan Hangwani Maumela, with whom Mr Matalala also communicates via WhatsApp.”
